A week or so ago I thought it would be fun to sit down at an actual chessboard and just move the pieces around. Nothing utilitarian, no “training” or “preparation”—just fun and exploration. Frankly, that’s something adults probably don’t do enough, except when we are ourselves playing with kids and meeting them at their level. So go and play - at whatever! - it’s good for you.
Ironically, at least in my case, when I do engage in play or daydreaming for its own sake, it often results in some of my best ideas, whether chess-related or not. I would not describe what you can replay here as among my best ideas, but it was interesting in its own small way as I stumbled into an idea that seemed new to me at the time. Perhaps it isn’t (there have been so many games in chess history that it has almost certainly happened before), but it was at least new to me and may be new to you as well.
Enjoy, and if you can think of predecessors to it please let me know.
Reminds me of this game I played years ago where my plan of 44.Rc6 gets hit by a very odd perpetual. https://www.chess.com/analysis/game/pgn/2rRPw9nJSa?tab=review
