For those of you blessedly unaware of sarcasm, facetiousness, irony, and other expressions of that ilk, it wasn’t shocking at all. Magnus Carlsen played very well in the games he won while surviving a couple of iffy games to defeat Ian Nepomniachtchi in the final match of the finale of the Champions Chess Tour. He won games 1, 2, and 5 to take the match by a dominant 4-1 score. His play wasn’t uniformly great through the event, but he still had the best score in the round-robin and defeated Maxime Vachier-Lagrave with some difficulty in the semi-final before crushing Nepo in the last match.
I’ve included all 95 games from the event, annotating 19 of them. There were interesting games that I didn’t analyze, so don’t assume that the other 76 games ought to be skipped. Anyway, here they are - enjoy. And here’s the video of the final day’s action.
