Chessboxing has been around for a while now (since 2003 or so), but as far as I know there haven’t been any matches involving well-known chess players. That has now changed. This past weekend, two chessboxing matches, all on the same card, featured well-known, mostly titled players going at it.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with chessboxing, it’s what it sounds like. The players start a chess game, and after a couple of minutes of play take up boxing for a minute and a half, then return to the chess game, then go back to boxing, etc. A player wins the contest by winning the chess game or the fight. Sometimes - as you’ll see if you care to watch - one contestant will dominate in one discipline and be dominated in the other, and it’s a race to see who will finish the other off first.
So, in this video (which is not language-appropriate for kids), most of the matches feature people who are unknown to the broader chess world, but GM Aman Hambleton and IM Lawrence Trent go at it (Hambleton wins in the first round of boxing by TKO), and then WGM Dina Belenkaya and WFM Andrea Botez have their turn (Botez dominated in the boxing, with Belenkaya quickly realizing that her only chance was to run as much as possible so she could finish off the chess game - which she did).
Not my cup of tea, but YMMV. (It does help me appreciate just how good professional boxers are, though.)
