After 8 months off (or so I’ve heard; I haven’t checked this), Viswanathan Anand came out of hibernation and played a G/15 against Jan-Krzysztof Duda. (No word on whether Anand saw his shadow.) Perhaps inspired by the very young Michael Jackson, but a little hazy on the details, Anand engineered a series of pawn breaks to crack open Duda’s kingside. First he went for h5-h6, then g4-g5, and finally f3-f4. It was an impressive win, especially for the short time control and the long layoff - have a look, here.
(HT: Allen Becker; more on the event here. And more blogging to come tonight.)
