Team events (other than the Olympiad) often fall under chess players’ radar, but it’s worth keeping an eye out for events like the Bundesliga and this, the European Club Cup. Not only is World Champion Magnus Carlsen playing, but so is his predecessor Viswanathan Anand. There are other super-GMs like Richard Rapport, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave; rising stars Arjun Erigaisi, Dommaraju Gukesh, and Parham Maghsoodloo; and other 2700s past and present. In short, lots of great players, so it’s worth tuning in to see how your favorite players are doing and to check for interesting opening ideas.
