Happy (Western) Easter!

And a blessed Palm Sunday to my Orthodox Christian readers.

Yes, it’s a chess blog, but man does not live by chess alone. Besides, I haven’t inflicted Notre Dame football propaganda on anyone, so extra indulgence is to be accorded your humble scribe.

So, Happy Easter, and here’s a little reading material for those who might be interested:

• Ross Douthat, proposing that a naive reading of the gospels may be just what we need (and may not in fact be so naive after all). In the essay he mentions this excellent book by Richard Bauckham, and I’d also recommend this fine, shorter book by Lydia McGrew.

• A pair of Easter meditations by Michael Brendan Dougherty, one from this year and another from 2021.

• More McGrew: From Lydia and her husband (and USCF master) Tim, on the resurrection. It’s a moderately technical piece I’ve mentioned before, but it’s a good one. If it ain’t broke, don’t fit it.
