While the controversy on day 2 has been sucking up most of the oxygen in the chess world, there have been plenty of interesting games in the tournament aside from the infamous 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 1-0 of Niemann-Carlsen from round 6. Here’s a selection of games from day 1 (rounds 1-4), which saw Carlsen lead with 3.5/4 (more precisely, 10/12 on the tournament’s 3-1-0 scoring system), half a point (a point) ahead of Erigaisi, Praggnanandhaa, Niemann, and Ivanchuk. Enjoy!
