As I suggested in yesterday’s post, the last round of the Sigeman & Co. tournament looked good for Abhimanyu Mishra, on paper, with White against the tournament tailender, but when that tailender is Boris Gelfand even a draw cannot be assumed. Indeed, he didn’t get it, losing a brutally long queen ending - 125 moves! - so Peter Svidler’s draw with Dommaraju Gukesh sufficed to give him clear first in the tournament. Mishra and Gukesh tied for second half a point behind, and Nils Grandelius was also part of that tie after his draw with Jorden Van Foreest. The game between Vincent Keymer and Arjun Erigaisi - great talents, but also-rans in this event, was also drawn, and so the event came to a close. Here are the final standings:
1. Svidler 4.5 (of 7)
2-4. Mishra Gukesh, Grandelius 4
5. Van Foreest 3.5
6. Erigaisi 3
7-8. Gelfand, Keymer 2.5
I’ll present games later today.
