It wasn’t a great round for the fans, either in general or especially for the locals, as the one and only decisive game was Fabiano Caruana’s win over Jorden Van Foreest. There weren’t even many “almosts” - for a few moves Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa was winning against Vincent Keymer, and likewise Levon Aronian’s slow grind against Arjun Erigaisi could have paid off late in the ending. But they missed their brief chances, and their games finished in draws. The other games were more or less clean draws, including the headline battle between Magnus Carlsen and Ding Liren.
You can see those games, plus a couple of the interesting games from the Challengers event (all with my comments), here. Hopefully round 4 will finally see lots of decisive results. Here are the pairings:
Giri (2) - Carlsen (2)
Ding (2) - Praggnanandhaa (1.5)
Rapport (1) - Caruana (2)
Abdusattorov (2) - Maghsoodloo (1.5)
So (1.5) - Aronian (1.5)
Keymer (1) - Erigaisi (1.5)
Van Foreest (1) - Gukesh (.5)
