The easily missed comments on the thread from people who have seen the source article suggest that the summary of the interview is rather inaccurate and slanted in places.
Thanks for the comment, and for getting me to re-check the comments. (The first time I checked, a few hours ago, I didn't see anything that criticized the summary.) As far as I can tell right now - though I'm not sure I managed to access all the comments - the only issue is with Carlsen's supposed denial that he's still a professional player. It seems from one of the comments that they got Carlsen completely wrong, but even taken at face value I thought it was just a somewhat tongue-in-cheek way of referring to his near-total abandonment of classical chess.
